Dave and Mollie are dear friends and longtime supporters of Lily’s Fund. At this year’s luau, they generously bid on a party at Charlie’s on Main — an old-time speakeasy in the heart of Oregon, Wis.
When it came time to celebrate Dave’s 50th this week, they knew exactly where to go, and they were kind enough to invite us.
From the main dining room, the underground speakeasy is accessed via a secret passageway hidden behind a bookcase. Tug on the correct book, and you’ll find a cozy space with comfy leather sofas and a cheerful bartender named Hudson who serves depression-era cocktails in style.
We sampled several small plates throughout the evening. My favorites included the crab cake shooters and the grilled cheese sandwiches, made with Clausen’s Artisan Sourdough, Hook’s 3 yr cheddar, Nueske’s bacon, peppadew jam, and Supercharge! pea shoots.
